Welcome
Head Teacher's Welcome
Welcome to St Mary's C of E VA Primary!
‘A Jewel in the crown of Thornbury’
We are so proud of our school, our community and what we stand for as a school. We are steeped in tradition, being a Victorian building in an historic setting, we love nothing more than maintaining school traditions that have formed part of children's memories for years after they have left the school. We are still supported by ex-pupils who are now grandparents to children at the school and we value this wonderful aspect which forms part of the character of our school.
At the heart of everything we do are our Christian values which help children to gain an understanding of how Christians live in a diverse and challenging world. These values can be seen 'living' when anyone comes to visit our school. Visitors are warmly welcomed by adults and children. Children are polite and courteous and our values of Hope, Community, Justice, Courage, Joy and Peace shine through everything they do and say.
We offer a warm, welcoming and secure environment, in a school that believes in a strong sense of family community in close partnership with the church, parents, staff and governors. We value being so close to our church as this allows us to hold our Harvest Festival, Christmas Carols and Performances, Easter Celebrations, Leavers Service and any opportunities we can to be together as a community. Our church school distinctiveness enables children to grow spiritually in their understanding of worship, church and school links and the importance of religion in their lives and a positive Christian ethos.
Our priorities are to nurture each individual child to respect and value one another and to gain confidence in themselves. At St. Mary’s teaching and learning is supportive, inclusive and challenging. Children experience high standards of education, encouraging independent thinking, whilst acquiring a wide knowledge of the world around them.
St Mary’s children grow into well-rounded, academically accomplished individuals where they learn, play, develop and are very happy. They build memories, make good friends and flourish. We have a dedicated teaching and support staff team who work tirelessly to continue to improve and ensure that children’s experiences are the best that can be provided. Our teaching team are committed to providing the best quality education and are proud to be part of a 'Professional Growth' school, which means we are ALL learning, firstly, because we want to know what it feels like to be a learner and secondly, because we believe our children always deserve the best we can offer.
If you are considering sending your child to St Mary's or would like to find out more, please get in touch. We welcome visitors and would love to meet you!
