Head Teacher Welcome

‘A Jewell in the crown of Thornbury’

As both an OFSTED Outstanding and Church Outstanding school we firmly believe our success is due to the children discovering an early love of learning. At the heart of everything we do are our Christian values which help children to gain an understanding of how Christians live in a diverse and challenging world.  We offer a warm, welcoming and secure environment, in a school that believes in a strong sense of family community in close partnership with the church, parents, staff and governors.

Our priorities are to nurture each individual child to respect and value one another and to gain confidence in themselves. At St. Mary’s teaching and learning is supportive and challenging. Children experience high standards of education, encouraging independent thinking, whilst acquiring a wide knowledge of the world around them.

St Mary’s children grow into well-rounded, academically accomplished individuals where they learn, play, develop and are very happy. We have a dedicated teaching and support staff team who work tirelessly to continue to improve and ensure that children’s experiences are the best that can be provided. The children consistently achieve above national standards and we frequently finish in or around the top ten schools in the county for achievement. However data results are not everything as we believe a wider curriculum where pupil talents are recognised and supported enable children to flourish and build up the confidence they need to succeed in life.

Our church school distinctiveness enables children to grow spiritually in their understanding of worship, church and school links, importance of religion in their lives and a positive Christian ethos which can be seen daily throughout our school.
