Ramadan 12.4.21 - 12.5.21
Tue 06 Apr 2021Ramadan 12th April to 12th May 2021
This is when Muslims observe the month of Ramadan, to mark a time when Allah, or God, gave the first chapters of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad in 610.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast, abstain from pleasures and pray to become closer to God.
It is also a time for families to gather and celebrate. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.
Fasting is important during Ramadan as it allows Muslims to devote themselves to their faith and come closer to Allah, or God. Fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which form the basis of how Muslims live their lives.
Muslims believe that Ramadan teaches them to practice self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice, and empathy for those who are less fortunate, thus encouraging actions of generosity and compulsory charity (zakat).
You can exchange Ramadan greetings by saying “Ramadan Kareem,” which translates into “Have a generous Ramadan,” or “Ramadan Mubarak,” which roughly translates into “Happy Ramadan.” On the last day of Ramadan, which is Eid-al-fitr, the greeting changes to “Eid Mubarak’’.

Season of LENT
Fri 19 Feb 2021We are in the season of Lent, which is the period from Ash Wednesday 17th February to Easter Sunday 4th April 2021.
Traditionally Lent allows us to remember when Jesus fasted and prayed in the wilderness for 40 days and nights before starting his ministry.
It reminds us that at the end of Lent to remember the sacrifice of Jesus.
It signifies a huge test of will power shown by Jesus and is a time when we can do something to help ourselves and other people.
Three things we can do:
- Give something up
- Pray for people and children less fortunate than ourselves
- Set a goal for yourself to help someone in need.
Interesting facts for this time to remember:
Purple is the Christian colour of the year.
The actual time between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday is 46 days, but contained in the time are 6 Sundays.

Covid-19: Who do I contact if my child tests positive in the February half term
Fri 12 Feb 2021Covid-19: Who do I contact...if my child tests positive in the February half-term
Stop the spread. Do the right thing. www.southglos.gov.uk/coronavirus
Date: Saturday 13 February - Tuesday 16 February
If your child tests positive during this time it will impact on your child’s bubble / class
and we will need to alert those affected.
Please email us on: ey-schoolscovidincidents @southglos.gov.uk
• The name of the school /setting
• The year group and class your child is in
• When your child’s symptoms started
• When they were tested
• When they were last in school /settingWe will reply to your email with any additional advice. We will contact the school /
setting if necessary to let them know, and advise on any actions they will need to take.Date: Wednesday 17 February - Sunday 21 February
Your household should continue to isolate as instructed and inform your child’s
school or setting in the normal way. If your child tests positive during this time
their bubble / class will not be affected as they would not have been in school
during the infectious period. To help us monitor cases in school / the setting, it would be helpful if you can email us the details using the email address
ey-schoolscovidincidents@southglos.gov.uk
****If you are at all worried about your child’s symptoms during the February half-term, please call NHS 111 and seek advice****
Why are we asking you to provide details to the mailbox?
• When Covid-19 symptoms start, the person is infectious two days before this and up to 10 days afterwards. If your child gets symptoms between Saturday 13 February and Tuesday 16 February and goes on to test positive, it can impact on others in their bubble, class or year group who will also need to isolate because they are contacts of a positive case.
• If your child gets symptoms between Wednesday 17 February and Sunday 21 February and goes on to test positive, it’s unlikely to affect your child’s bubble, class or year group in the same way but we still need you to report it so we can log these positive cases locally.
You will need to inform everyone your child has been in close contact with that they have tested positive and these other contacts will need to self-isolate for 10 days. Also remember to let any out of school care / holiday clubs / activity clubs know about your child’s symptoms and test results.
If your child is isolating at the start of term 4 please contact your school / setting in the usual way to let them know when your child will be back at school / setting.
There’s lots of useful Covid-19 information for parents and carers on our website

Remote learning Parental Survey
Mon 25 Jan 2021Please follow the link below to the survey. It is essential we have this back by Thursday so that we can make any tweaks for next week.
E-Safety for Parents
E-safety is an integral part of children’s education in today’s digital world and is embedded in their learning at school. We also want to help our parents and children improve their own understanding of e-safety issues so they can learn to use the internet and all digital media in a safe and secure way.
At Home
As a parent, you'll know how important the internet is to children - they use it to learn, play, socialise and express themselves. It's a highly creative place of amazing opportunities. But the technology children use every day can seem a bit daunting and you might worry about the risks your child can face online - such as bullying, contact from strangers or the possibility of them seeing illegal or inappropriate content.
You can download a simple checklist here that may help you start to protect your children online and decrease the risks they face. Or you can engage with your children regarding their use of the internet while at home. Here are some conversation starter ideas from www.childnet.com
- Ask your children to tell you about the sites they like to visit and what they enjoy doing online.
- Ask them about how they stay safe online. What tips do they have for you, and where did they learn them? What is OK and not OK to share?
- Ask them if they know where to go for help, where to find the safety advice, privacy settings and how to report or block on the services they use.
- Encourage them to help. Perhaps they can show you how to do something better online or they might have a friend who would benefit from their help and support.
- Think about how you use the internet as a family. What could you do to get more out of the internet together and further enjoy your lives online
Internet Safety Resources
There is a great new online safety tool designed for parents launched by the Department for Education called Parent Info. It's has advice on everything from keeping children safe from online trolls to WhatsApp - a guide for parents.
Childnet also produce a leaflet for parents which you can download. We have a new check list for parents to help their children stay safe. You can find it under the Parent E-Safety Area on the website.

Epiphany 6th January
Tue 05 Jan 2021Epiphany
Epiphany celebrates the birth of Jesus. It is the twelfth night of Christmas when Christians believe that the 12 days of Christmas mark the amount of time it took after the birth of Jesus for the Wise men to travel to Bethlehem when they recognised him as the Son of God.
